Discover the Essence of the Livermore Valley

In the rolling vineyards of the storied Livermore Valley, where California’s wine history was first made, Cavalry Wines stands as a symbol of both tradition and innovation. Our legacy, deeply rooted in this iconic wine region, has matured into a portfolio of vintages that effortlessly combine tradition with contemporary excellence.

World-Class Craftsmanship

Immerse yourself in the flavors of Cavalry Vineyards and Winery, where the art of winemaking is elevated to its finest form by the world-renowned winemaker, Matthew Sands.

Matt is a New Zealand native who traded winemaking on New Zealand.

Matthew Sands

Winemaker Matthew Sands is a New Zealand native who traded winemaking on New Zealand’s tiny Waiheke island for California in 2013 After learning the ins-and-outs of winemaking, doing every job from pruning to sales at a small, family-owned winery on Waiheke, Matt landed in Napa Valley at Screaming Eagle, where he honed his expertise in Cabernet Sauvignon.

Matt is constantly inspired by California’s range of terroirs, and loves creating a tangible product from the harvest each year. Matt believes the best wines are supremely enjoyable even in their youth and strives to craft wines that are well-balanced and nuanced. To achieve this goal in the cellar, Matt uses an incredibly light touch to accent the beautiful variations of wine from some of California’s finest vineyards. Rather than making wine with a recipe, Matt treats each lot of grapes like a unique individual, delicately coaxing out maximum nuance and finesse so each wine is incredibly drinkable.

Foundation

We are a 501c(3) education foundation and our original charter is to provide education and support for foster kids who need salable job skills. We were formed in 2020.

“Planned Activities.

To facilitate the accomplishment of its mission, the Foundation plans to engage in, sponsor (or co-sponsor), or otherwise be associated with the creation, development, administration, and funding of the programs and activities described in following project areas:

Technical Education Program

In furtherance of its exempt purposes, the Foundation plans to run a technical education program, initially focused on automotive technology for recent high school graduates and junior college students, particularly those who have recently aged out of foster care.
The educational program will be full time: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. Students will receive hands-on experience in research and development of cutting-edge automotive technology. The goal of the educational program is to provide each student with the tools needed to begin a successful career in a trade. Each student’s curriculum and program structure will be individualized for their particular aptitude, academic history, and interest.

The educational program will be free for each student and will typically last three years. The Board plans to further develop the Foundation’s educational program goals, objectives, and priorities on an ongoing basis.
The Foundation will solicit and receive applications from potential program participants, which will be reviewed and evaluated by the Foundation’s volunteer Board or a separate selection committee. The Board or committee will select students based on the applicant’s circumstances, the relative strength of the application, and how these factors relate to the Foundation’s mission and selection criteria, which will be based on financial need, personal circumstances (including whether they have aged out of the foster care system), academic merit, a demonstrated aptitude for and interest in mechanical technology, enrollment in a junior college, among other factors to be determined by the Board.
The Foundation plans to spend approximately 50 percent of its time on these activities, which will be funded solely by charitable contributions to the Foundation.

Speaking Engagements

The Foundation plans to devote approximately 5 percent of its time to speaking engagements that address the needs for young adults who have aged out of foster care, which will both educate broader audiences about this critical issue and serve to raise support for the Foundation’s mission.

Fundraising and Administration

The Foundation plans to devote approximately 10 percent of its time to fundraising, as further detailed in this application, and to general administration.”

We changed the purpose in 2021 from supporting education of foster kids because the county would not refer them to us because of COVID. We then pivoted to supporting education in general by donating the wine product to schools and other education institutions.
